Go hiking in the footsteps of history

Gendarmstien goes right through Lærkelunden.

Gendarmstien is one of Denmark's best-known and most popular hiking routes. The hiking route follows the coast along the fjord at Sønderborg and goes along the same old beautiful paths that the Danish border guards followed between Denmark and Germany until the 1950s.

The full length of Gendarmstien runs 84 km from Padborg to Skovby on Sydals. The trail is well marked, has shelters (primitive camp sites) for overnight stays in tents and other facilities. The path runs most of the way along the water and passes many historical sights, including at Dybbøl and Sønderborg.

Gendarmstien is part of the E6 long-distance hiking route and the hiking route connects via Als to Funen's Øhavssti and from Padborg to Gränseruten and to Hærvejen.

Lærkelunden as a pit stop

The campsite is located approx. 26 km from Gendarmstien one end at Padborg. Lærkelunden is therefore a good option as accommodation and base for a hike on Gendarmstien. Here you can spend the night in one of our cabins or caravans. Or spend the night in your own caravan-tent-car-camper-tent and take a bus or your own car out to/from the place on Genarmstien you have reached. This way you can hike with light support and divide the trip into the stages that suit you.
