Take a hike in the footsteps of history
The Gendarme Path goes right through Lærkelunden.
The Gendarme Path is one of Denmark's best-known and most popular hiking trails. The hiking trail follows the coast along the fjord at Sønderborg and goes along the same old beautiful paths that the Danish border guards followed between Denmark and Germany until the 1950s.
The full length of The Gendarme Path runs 84 km from Padborg to Skovby in Sydals. The path is well marked, has shelters (primitive campsites) for overnight stays in tents and other facilities. The path runs most of the way along the water and passes many historical sights, including at Dybbøl and Sønderborg.
The Gendarme Path is part of the E6 long-distance hiking route and the hiking route connects across Als to the Funen Archipelago Trail and from Padborg to the Border Route and to the Hærvejen.
